Interim Head of School
Dr. Karen Gazith has served as the Dean of Academics at Les écoles Azrieli Schools for the past five years. Dr. Gazith has worked with our teachers to deliver a curriculum based upon a revolutionary Challenge-Based Learning model of teaching.
Prior to her time at our schools, Dr. Gazith worked at Federation CJA as the Interim Executive Director of the Bronfman Jewish Education Center and Director of Education for over 15 years. Her career began in the Jewish Day School system where she worked for 13 years as the director of their resource program. She is a professor at McGill University’s Department of Education and Counselling Psychology.

Director of the English School
Lorne Grintuch has been part of our school community for 12 years. “Mr.G”, as he is affectionately called by the students, began his career at Herzliah as a mathematics and science teacher before taking on the role of coordinator and then Assistant Principal. He brings much enthusiasm, energy, and experience to all that he does for our students, our faculty and our school.
Before Herzliah, Mr. Grintuch gained valuable experience working in the public school sector and with various youth programs. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and education.
Director of the French School
Claudine Habre has a Bachelor’s degree in communication psychosociology and in teaching in French at the secondary level. Mme. Habre has taught French and univers social at Herzliah since 2007. With her educational background and rich cultural experiences, she has been able to inspire students while teaching them effective learning strategies.
Mme. Habre coordinated the French program for several years in our primary and secondary schools always emphasizing the importance on public speaking.
Ellie Grumberg has been a senior administrator at our school since 2005. She spent over 20 years teaching Judaic Studies before beginning to work in administration. This experience has given her a deep understanding of the Jewish day school system in Montreal.
Mrs. Grumberg joined the Herzliah administrative team 14 years ago and has served as Principal, Educational Director and Associate Head of School before taking on her present role of Senior Advisor to the school. Her passion for Jewish education in general and in our school in particular, coupled with her more than 40 years hands-on experience in Jewish day school education, has translated into strong leadership, supporting our school system as it grows and strengthens.
Director of Judaic Studies
After graduating from Herzliah, David Azerad went on to Yeshiva University where he majored in Jewish Education and minored in Psychology. Upon returning to Montreal, Mr. Azerad used his musical talents to start the Kol Simcha band.
Mr. Azerad has been Director of Jewish Studies since 2007 and was part of the team that introduced the Lookstein program to our elementary and high school. Mr. Azerad works to ensure that each student has the opportunity to engage in the many experiential programs that are defining moments in our school.
Elad Ben Eli
Director of Athletics
During Elad’s tenure at Herzliah, he inspired students to create the new logo for our Herzliah Lions. He has also designed our sports uniform, spirit wear and was responsible for the “birth” of our very energetic and charismatic mascot.
Director of Academic Services
Mme. Ohnouna is also a frequently sought out consultant for all member schools of the Association of Jewish Day Schools (AJDS).
English and Social Sciences Coordinator
Brandon Uditsky graduated from the University of Ottawa and McGill University, and has taught English and Social Sciences courses at Herzliah at every grade level.
He is a recipient of the Ministry of Education’s Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Teaching Achievement in the History of Quebec and Canada.
From 2013 to 2015, he led Talmud Torah | Herzliah in the process of joining the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools, an organization that promotes national standards of educational practices among Canada’s top private schools.
Mr. Uditsky is responsible for the English and Social Sciences curriculum, as well as the Secondary I Advisor program.
Math and Science Coordinator
Patrick Elbaz has been the Herzliah science department head since 2004. He has 30 years of teaching experience in all levels of math and sciences.
In 2018 he was the recipient of the Quebec Teaching Order of Excellence which is awarded to teachers who have distinguished themselves in the field. Mr. Elbaz introduced and continues to oversee our science fair since 2005. He has successfully guided many of our students to projects worthy of regional, national and international attention.
Mr. Elbaz is an advocate of students’ learning through authentic and meaningful experiences that enable them to acquire the skills that are critical to their post-secondary success.
